Geoffrey Carpenter is a lawyer, mediator, arbitrator and parenting-coordinator. He received his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Ontario, and a Master of Laws (family law) from Osgoode Hall. He is an Adjunct Professor at the Lincoln Alexander School of Law at Toronto Metropolitan University, sits as a Deputy Judge and Dispute Resolution Officer in Central West Region, is a panel member for the Office of the Children’s Lawyer and is certified by the Law Society of Ontario as a Specialist in Family Law.
Geoffrey has over 15 years of experience in Family Law and has litigated at every level of court in Ontario. He has been involved in numerous high profile cases, including as lead counsel for the successful appellant at the Ontario Court of Appeal in Ahluwalia v. Ahluwalia, the seminal case about family violence. He has also been involved in other well-known cases involving children’s views and preferences, contempt, and transgender youth.
Outside of his practice, Geoffrey is the Chair of the Ontario Bar Association’s Family Law Section, a board member for the Family Dispute Resolution Institute of Ontario and a regular speaker at continuing professional development programs for lawyers and alternative dispute resolution professionals.
Geoffrey lives in Oakville with his wife, an elementary school teacher, and two children.
